As part of the implementation of the academic activities and field trips plan of the College of Engineering – Department of Architecture, and with the aim of linking theoretical knowledge with practical application, a field study tour was organized for architecture students to the Old City of Aleppo. The tour was conducted under the supervision and participation of the Dean of the College of Engineering, Dr. Mazen Samaan, within the framework of the course Revitalization of Old Cities.

The tour included a visit to the Wakil House Restoration Project, where students examined the various stages and techniques of architectural restoration. In addition, they studied traditional markets as integral components of the historic urban fabric, and toured the surroundings of the Citadel of Aleppo to explore urban development across different historical periods and site coordination strategies in heritage areas.

Students were also introduced to urban regeneration techniques and the challenges associated with preserving architectural identity, alongside gaining insight into intangible cultural heritage through a visit to a stained-glass workshop located within Wakil House.

This field trip significantly contributed to enhancing students’ hands-on experience, broadening their understanding of historic city revitalization concepts, and strengthening the connection between academic study and real-world practice.
